STUDENTS WELFARE PROGRAMMES
I.A.S. Study Circle
ANJAC has been a driving force for the student community to epitomize their academic excellence among the galaxy of elite forums available in ANJAC for the benefit of the students. The I.A.S. Study Circle stands apart. It imparts, trains, motivates and encourages the students to take up the prestigious and highest examinations in the country, i.e., the Civil Services Examination (I.A.S.)
Remedial courses
The Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal is functioning in a typical Indian sub-urban locale. Being situated at a distance of 5 km from the township limits, the major input for our college is fed by schools in and around Sivakasi and the neighboring rural areas. Hence, there exists a perennial task of upgrading the students to the pre-requisites of higher education. To accomplish this task, the following remedial measures are adopted.
Bridge course
While the medium of instruction in our college is English, we are in a position to admit a majority percentage of students who have undergone their qualifying examination in Tamil medium. In order to familiarize these students with our medium of instruction, one-week intensive bridge course in English is provided during the commencement of UG Courses to the fresher.
Identification of weak students
The extent of students’ weakness in a particular subject is being identified and the teaching methods are altered to suit and later to the grasping levels of these weak students . At times, the instructional classes are made bi-linguistic – both English and Tamil to help the weak students to improve their understanding and to overcome their mental barriers.
Remedial classes
At times, it is found that the care rendered during the course of instructional classes is not enough for some very slow learners. In such cases, remedial classes are offered outside the regular teaching hours. The concerned faculty holds informal remedial classes, in the form of special exercises, home assignments and doubt clearing sessions during intervals.
Additional coaching
If a group of students is weak in a particular subject either because they find it difficult to cope up or because of the fact that they are new, additional coaching classes are organized after college hours. A very nominal fee is collected for this coaching. Depending on the merit of the case, this fee is met out from either allotted fund (e.g. Adi Dravida Fund) or by the student.
Performance review
After each cycle of internal examinations, the performance of students is reviewed. This facilitates the identification of weak students to render the required remedial courses.
Extension activities
Being one among the few institutions of higher education, extension works at our college become inevitable. Coaching Classes for UGC / CSIR Eligibility Test are being conducted for the final year Post Graduate Students to prepare themselves for the same which is required for pursuing their further academic endeavours. B.Tech. entrance coaching is also being extended to the U.G. final year students of Maths and Physics which facilitates them to seek admission into B.Tech Programmes at I.I.T. (especially at Chennai). Besides, the coaching for Professional Entrance Examination to the Higher Secondary Students of this locale play a major role in getting them into the courses like B.E. and M.B.B.S., B.Sc., (Agriculture). The Teaching Faculties of our College are being actively involved in not only in rendering Guest Lectures / being Resource Persons in Seminars / Conferences / Workshops (at the National and International levels) organized by scientific bodies but also in Organizing the same.
The following state level Seminars / Workshops have been organized very recently by the various Departments:
